Skiing News

So I'm at work and I get a call from Ali, the head rep, at Ski Barrett-Boyce. She called today to offer Beccy and I a job in Megeve, France.
Ski Barrett-Boyce are a nice family who run a chalet. The family has visited on many occasions and I have fond memories of skiing holidays there. Megeve is near Chamonix, about an hour's drive from Geneva. When I describe it I always say that it's a village first and a ski resort second. Most of the accommodation in the village is a good bus ride away and the skiing isn't amazing, like in the 3 valleys, but it's pretty good. It's not a high resort so the slopes don't always keep all the snow, but these past years have been bad seasons anyway. The village is very picturesque, see a very "flash" website www.megeve.com. There are shops there, and not the normal kind of holiday resort shops you get in places like Les Menuires, Les Sables d-Olonne and Blackpool, selling novelty skiing hats, cheapo t-shirts and plastic toys. There an altogether higher brow sous-venir. There are boutiques, selling £400 sun glasses with anti-sit, Timberlake coats made out ofsuedee with anti-spill, there are ski boots with Aallard (a very posh shop) written across them with anti- making- a- tit- of- yourself- trying- to- get- off- that- deck- chair- outside- that- cafe- when- you- should- be- skiing- and- not- sun- bathing- around- you- lazy- arse. There are no shops with tacky pink plastic sousvenir skis in, the cheapest thing to buy are chocolates from a very expensive chocolate shop. But I like it. Perhaps that says something about me, not that I wander round buying any of this stuff, just it gives the place a more welcoming feel. There are also bars there. One in particular called the cocoon is very nice. It's warm and friendly and, like the rest of Megeve, you can hang your coat on the hook and not worry about it. The beer's fairly expensive, but what do you expect from a ski resort? There's also the Club-de-Jazz. It isn't the kind of place you go to listen to eight men playing a different tune simultaneously, it's a place you go to boogie. The past two times I've been to Megeve the bands have been brilliant, and leave you wanting to stay well into the night. One holiday there were a couple of guys called Alex and Rob who went out everynight. 3 out of 6 we were in the Jazz Club until very late indeed. You've just got to go. I can't say any more than that. And if you want mate's rates I'm thinking 7th Jan? How are you fixed. I'll email you. Check out this website www.skibb.com but email me first if you want to come. So I've got the job as a barman, which means I'll be doing lots of talking. I think that's the best role for me. The deal's a good one I'm getting off BB, very attractive. Anyways, the last time I went to megeve I took the piccys you can find under Albums -----> have a wee looky.
