HP (sauce? ... no 6): and The Half Blood Prince
Went to see 'arry Potter today in 3D IMAX at The Printworks in Manchester centre. What can I say... it was excellent, very entertaining. There was only 12 minutes of 3D in it, but then most people won't see it in 3D. Still, a bit of a half baked attempt I thought.
For those people living in a cave it is the latest film in the series which follows a young wizard growing up, going to school and learning to deal with good and evil. In the latest film the young wizards start to explore the emotional side of young adulthood, romance and responsibility blossoms.
As ever Daniel Radcliffe's (Harry) performance is, in some part, unconvincing, but he has come some way since his big-screen début in 2001. His supporting actors Emma Watson and Rupert Grint (Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley) again show that they can out act Daniel, which, I think, only highlights this problem. Their part to play in this screenplay is far smaller than in previous films as they are now limited solely to the humanistic side of the script and don't get involved at all in magic. In fact I don't think that they are seen to be using magic once throughout the whole 153 mintues.
Don't get me wrong, this sad fact doesn't ruin the film which I think is a great combination of parallel plots leading to an aptly predictable and well talked about cliffhanger/twist. It's a good solid 8.5/10 for sheer entertainment value and if you can see it in IMAX!
